10 Things To Do For Mothers Day

Every year Mothers Day seems to sneak up on me like I didn’t know it was coming again in 365 days lol. I’m always “that person” running in Walmart 10 minutes before they close so I can grab the last wilted bouquet of flowers and scramble my way through the $.99 card section (sad, but true).

This year I am turning over a new leaf by proactively planning out Mothers Day 2019! I’ve been brainstorming fun & unique ideas/activities all week because whoever came up with the idea of taking loved ones “out to eat” for every special occasion is basic…..yes I said it.

So far I’ve come up with a pretty good list and I am currently leaning towards a combination of a sleepover & an outdoor movie night. There are a bunch of other ideas I’d love to try, but I’ll keep them in mind for the future. Look at me already planning way ahead! *pats self on the back*

If you’ve been struggling to come up with a perfectly planned Mothers Day, here is a list of 10 things to think about. As always, share your ideas and tell me what you have planned for Mothers Day in the comments section below. If you try out any of the ones listed, shoot me your pics and I’ll post them in the DIYer’s by Bianca Octavia Facebook group.

Oh, and yes…..that is a picture of me and my mom on my first birthday lol. Why was my pink ballerina cake so freaking cute??

1. Have a mother daughter sleepover

Grab some games & drinks, order some pizza, and invite other mother daughter couples over for a sleep over. The following morning, all the daughters can pitch in to cook breakfast or brunch for the moms.

2. Plan a picnic

Spring time to me just screams “Have a picnic”! If the weather is right, find a park and set up a beautiful picnic area. Don’t forget to pack wine and a speaker so you can play her favorite songs.

3. Have an outdoor movie night

I have been wanting to try this idea out since forever! Of course you can always do an indoor movie night, but doing it outdoors instead is just cute as hell. All you need is sheets, a projector and bean bags or lawn chairs. Surprise your mom by inviting the entire family over and showing her favorite movie.

4. Plant a garden

Spend the day creating a garden together and the upkeep of it will give you guys an excuse to continue coming together throughout the the rest of the gardening season.

5. Host a tea party

This idea is also super cute, but requires a little bit more work. If you have the time to plan out a party and invite friends, this would make for great pictures that your mom would cherish for a lifetime. (If it were me, I’d make it an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party)

6. Give your mom a makeover

Take your mom to get her hair/makeup done & shopping for a new outfit. If you really want to go the extra mile, have a surprise mom & daughter photo shoot planned afterwards.

7. Visit a museum or botanical garden

If you guys are art lovers, this would be the perfect way to spend the day. Take your mom to a really cool exhibit or to your local botanical garden and grab lunch afterwards.

8. Take a crafting class

Taking a crafting or cooking class is always a great way to bond with someone you love. A great way to find unique workshops/classes is through Airbnb Experiences. My mom & I took a pasta cooking class that we found on their site while we were in Italy & it was the highlight of our trip!

(And not to toot my own horn, but I kinna am tooting my own horn……The DIYher Workshop is hosting a candle making class on 5/11 at 1:00PM. Instead of buying your mom her favorite candles, you guys can make them together! Tickets can be purchased here. )

9. Brunch in bed

Yes…..brunch in bed because who wants to wake up early on their special day for breakfast? Tell your mom to sleep in late and bring her a triple blueberry pancake stack with a mimosa. (Again…if it were me, I’d play Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s movie while my mom is eating)

10. Clean up

So my moms idea of fun is coming over to help her clean and de-clutter. Although it’s not my idea of a good time, having someone come to clean your entire home free of charge does sound nice when you’re on the receiving end of it. If your mom has been overwhelmed by the idea of finally organizing her closet or garage, then this is your time to shine (no pun intended).

If you’d rather hire someone to do it instead, check out Closets by D. Nicole! She revamps and organizes cluttered closets & other home spaces.
